Lesson Plan of the Month

Welcome to our new Lesson Plan page. Here we hope to provide a place for educators to share their experiences teaching poetry in the classroom. Each month we will post a new Lesson Plan for you to try. You can discuss the lesson plans on our message board.

We're always looking for new ideas to post for lesson plans so please email us with the subject "Poetry Lesson" or fill out our handy "Submit a Lesson" form.

We look forward to hearing from you!

ARTSEDGE: Lesson Plans with Poetry

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has produced this rich website full of great lesson plans. ARTSEDGE the National Arts and Education Network supports the placement of the arts at the center of the curriculum and advocates creative use of technology to enhance the K-12 educational experience. ARTSEDGE empowers educators to teach in, through, and about the arts by providing the tools to develop interdisciplinary curricula that fully integrate the arts with other academic subjects.

ARTSEDGE offers free, standards-based teaching materials for use in and out of the classroom, as well as professional development resources, student materials, and guidelines for arts-based instruction and assessment.

Liven up your poetry unit with some of these arts-integrated lessons:
Rhythm and Improv, Jazz and Poetry
The Poetics of Hip-Hop
Set a Poem to Music
